George Atalla has been appointed global sector leader to EY’s government and public sector practice, succeeding Uschi Schreiber who moves up to the firm’s most senior management body.

Atalla was until recently partner and vice president at Booz & Company, leading its government and public sector practice across the Middle East and Africa regions.

He has worked in over 30 developed and developing markets, focusing on public-private partnerships, outsourcing, restructuring and policy reform.

Atalla will be based in EY’s McLean, Virginia office, having previously been based in Dubai.

Meanwhile, Schreiber becomes global vice chair for markets and chair of EY’s global accounts committee. She will sit on EY’s global executive, its most senior management board.

Schreiber is recognised as a diversity and inclusiveness leader and last month was appointed to the Women in Parliaments Global Forum Advisory Board. She is also founder of the Worldwide Women Public Sector Leaders Network.

Last month, Schreiber addressed CIPFA's annual conference in London on emerging global trends and how the public sector can respond.
